A modest, light-filled Melbourne family home by Carole Whiting, designed as an ode to unique textures and a soft colour palette. For a client that requested a home that wasn’t ‘too showy’, Melbourne-based interior designer Carole Whiting took inspiration from natural materials and organic forms. Delivering a calm, handcrafted atmosphere, the Sage House is designed for comfort and relaxation, providing an environment for a busy family to find space to breathe in.

Sage House exudes the grace of a modern-day family home. Pairing soft, washed timber finishes and crisp white cabinetry with plenty of storage, the kitchen offers a breath of fresh air while remaining practical. Opening out above the Superbianco Oak floors by Admonter sits a considerable stretch of glass which allows for an abundance of sunlight to filter thorugh into the home.
Superbianco Oak floors by Admonter form a soft, neutral foundation throughout Sage House, while the Potter Ds Pendant Light by Anchor Ceramics adds a handcrafted element to the kitchen. Doug Johnson’s Woven Pendant adds a sculptural element to the dining area. The Lacanche Sully 1805D Cooker provides a timeless and elegant design element in the kitchen, while the contemporary joinery throughout adds a harmonious fusion of modern meets heritage.
The home needed to reveal ‘unpretentious’ spaces that married both elegance and relaxation. Carole achieved this through the inclusion of custom leather Skagerak Georg stools, accents of greenery and complimentary warm timbers. It was essential that the soft furnishings also embodied the soothing aura of the home. The Freestyle Sofa by Molteni & Co. evokes a sense of homeliness, consistent with the light and dark grey tones in the nearby Danskina rug and window seat.
